Why Use Projectors and Who Needs Them?

In the Office

In the past, most presentations were given using transparencies and an over head projector (OHP) Although this method may save money, archiving stacks of transparencies from past presentations is not practical.

Therefore, the use of color projectors with a notebook computer is favored by many. One of the reasons is the ease with which you can update your presentations. Instead of re-printing your transparencies, you can simply edit the soft copy of the presentation. You save the cost of color toner for your printer as well as the use of additional transparencies.

Also, the notebook and projector combination gives user the ability to add animation and sound effects to a presentation. An interesting presentation always leaves a lasting impression for the audience.

Hence it is not surprising for most corporate entities to have not one but several color projectors for their meeting and conference rooms.

At schools

Even schools are using projectors for their classes as they enable the teacher to project large images for whole class viewing.

At home

Projectors are not only used for presentations and as a teaching tool. Home theater enthusiasts also use projectors because of the large screen display (up to 300-inches) compared to Plasma TVs which only have a screen size of up to 80-inches.

With a projector, all you need to mimic a cinematic experience at home are a decent DTS or Dolby Digital readied DVD player with decoder and THX certified multi-speakers.

Stating the advantages and uses of projectors, the next question would be how to choose a projector. We shall answer this question with the next topic: The types of projectors and how they work .
